1 on None Basketball was created to develop, enhance and offer youth players the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of basketball while instilling life-lessons and values such as character, team work, discipline, respect and sportsmanship. We offer individual, group and team instruction, in addition to competitive AAU club teams.
Coach Steve was selected in the second round of the 1991 NBA Draft (42nd overall) by the Sacramento Kings and played professional basketball for 10 years in the US, Australia, Europe and Asia.
He has over 25 years of competitive experience and over 12 years of professional private training, coaching, organizing and conducting basketball basketball camps and clinics. He was a revered standout McDonalds All-American at DeMatha Catholic High School and became one of the most feared players in the CAA, racking up two Player of the Year titles at James Madison University with Coach Lefty Driesell.
As a Coach he is a firm believer that playing sports builds character and confidence whilst provides a sense of accomplishment. It also prepares student athletes for the real world, teaching them teamwork, leadership, communication, responsibility, accountability and a strong work ethic – all these skills transfer into their personal lives and in turn helping develop into the best version of themselves.
Coach John Witherspoon, or Coach Spoon as he is known, is the Co-founder on 1 on None Basketball.
Coach Spoon played collegiate basketball and graduated from the University of Minnesota before playing in a semi-professional league in both NJ and PA. Growing up in Buffalo, NY, Coach Spoon won the City Championship in high school before attending St. Nicholas Tolentine in the Bronx, NY for a post-grad year in which his basketball team was voted the USA Today National Championship team.
Off the court, Coach Witherspoon has been a member of the Montgomery Country Police Department for 21 years. Detective Witherspoon has worked within the MCPD in the following departments: Investigations, Patrol, School Resource Officer, Training Instructor, and other Supervisory Positions. Coach Spoon is currently assigned to Special Victims Investigations Unit, Runaway/ Missing/Abducted Children’ Division/ Human Trafficking Task Force. As a nationally recognized expert in Juvenile Human trafficking and missing children, Detective Witherspoon was recently named the 2018 Missing Children's Investigator of the Year by the Department of Justice.
He was recently named the Head Coach of the Stone Ridge Varsity Basketball team in the fall of 2018, bringing an extensive and successful career of coaching to Stone Ridge.
Coach Witherspoon has previously held positions as the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at the Academy of Holy Cross in Kensington, MD and as the Assistant Boy's Coach at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.
Under his leadership, 1 On None has matriculated 25 Division I student-athletes, 45 Division II and III student-athletes, as well as three athletes to play professionally in the United States, and seven athletes to play in professional leagues internationally.
